Provider Network Disruption Effective April 1, 2012
Southern Health letter to Members – March 9, 2012
Questions & Answers
Effective April 1, 2012 Southern Health’s contract with HCA Health System (HCA) has ended. To date, Southern Health and HCA have not reached a financial agreement to continue HCA’s participation in Southern Health’s provider network.
Effective April 1, 2012, Southern Health members, including Henrico County employees and retirees, no longer have In-Network access to HCA hospitals. Local HCA hospitals include Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, Chippenham and Johnston-Willis Hospital, John Randolph Hospital and Retreat Hospital. On March 9, 2012, Southern Health mailed to each member a letter that included a list of HCA facilities.
Members who are were in an active course of treatment at an HCA facility for services expected to continue beyond March 31, 2012, needed to request that their physicians contact Southern Health to receive authorization to continue treatments beyond March 31, 2012. Examples of treatments eligible for consideration are: pregnant members in their second or third trimester, members undergoing chemotherapy or Remicaid therapy, or follow-up care from a procedure performed at HCA (such as removal of pins from a fracture). Contact Southern Health at 1-866-533-5149 to discuss your personal situation.
Non-emergency services received by Care POS and Value PPO Members at an HCA facility after April 1, without preauthorization will be covered at the Out-of-Network level. If Care POS and Value PPO members receive non-emergency care at Out-of-Network facilities, they will be responsible for the larger deductible and coinsurance of their Out-of-Network coverage as well as any balance billing. Care HMO and Value HMO members have no Out-of-Network coverage.
Please contact Southern Health’s Customer Service Department at 1-866-533-5149 if you have questions or need assistance.
