Philosophy Statement |
Varina High School Professional School Counselors believe that:

All students regardless of race, culture, religious belief or disability should be treated equally, respected and valued as a integral part of our society |

All students regardless of race, culture, religious belief or disability will have access to all services provided by the school counseling department |

The school counselor will be an advocate for all students and collaborate with faculty, staff, administration and the community as it relates to the development of the students personal/social, academic and career goals. |

The school counselor will collaborate with all parents in an effort to meet the needs of the student |

The school counseling program will be aligned with the needs of the student population. The needs will be determined by collaborating with the faculty, staff and administration at Varina High School and also by collecting data (surveys, pre-test, post-test) throughout the academic school year. |

The school counselors will continue to develop their skills and assist in enhancing the school counseling program by engaging in professional development activities at the local, state and national level. |

The school counselors will align their position with the ASCA’s (America School Counselor Association) professional school counseling ethics. |

Mission Statement |
The school counseling mission aligns with that of the school: to develop 21st century citizens who can achieve their full potential as lifelong learners with a commitment to their community, state, and nation which will enable them to meet the challenges of change. As advocates, school counselors will assist students in achieving their full potential by providing a school counseling program focusing on the developmental needs of students in the realms of academic, personal/social, and career planning. In doing so, the school counseling program will collaborate with administration, faculty, staff, the community, and parents in an effort to educate and empower the student and parent to help develop a true life long learner and respected citizen. |
