School Nutrition Services
School Nutrition Services in Henrico County Public Schools is an 18.2 million dollar non-profit business. Our staff of 500 prepares and serves over 7,000 breakfasts and 24,400 lunches to Henrico students every day. That’s a total of more than 5,643,608 meals a year! You could say we were one of the original “fast-food” operations, because we have always had the challenge of serving thousands of children every day in a short period of time.
School Nutrition Services is a unique department in the school system because we are 100% self-supporting. We pay for all direct expenses, payroll, administrative costs and utilities. About half of our income comes from the sale of meals and à la carte items and the remaining half comes from state and federal funds to reimburse us for the free and reduced meals we provide. We receive no local tax funds for our program.
Vision: Henrico County Public Schools will be the PREMIER school division in the United States. Mission Statement
The Virginia Farm to School program is an effort to increase the amount of fresh and nutritious Virginia Grown products offered in schools and to promote opportunities for schools and local farmers to work together. Students at Ward Elementary welcomed a local grower and an educational chef for a lesson on healthy eating.
