Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) wants to ensure that we are providing the best educational opportunities for our students, a collaborative and welcoming culture for our parents, and a positive, productive work environment for our employees. To further the growth and improvement of the school division, we are collecting input from students, parents, and staff about a broad range of topics, such as school quality and climate, effectiveness of communication, engagement in learning, and development of positive relationships.
We are working with the National Center for School Leadership (NCFSL) to conduct surveys to collect essential data that will support continuous improvement within the school division. NCFSL will be collecting and analyzing the survey data. Data provided to the school division will not contain any identifying information about the survey respondents and individual survey responses will remain anonymous.
If you have any questions about the following three surveys, please contact Dr. Chris Corallo, Executive Director for Organizational Development, Quality and Innovation at 652-3674 or ccorallo@henrico.k12.va.us or Dr. Penny Blumenthal, Director of Research and Planning at 652-3838 or mgblumen@henrico.k12.va.us.
Student Survey
All middle school students will be asked to participate in the Student Engagement and Satisfaction Survey January 3 – 13. All high school students will be asked to participate in the survey February 13 – 24. Students will be asked questions (related to the school they attend) that address school quality and climate, effectiveness of communication, engagement in learning, and development of positive relationships. Students will be given time to complete the survey during the school day, as determined by the school administration. Elementary students will not be asked to participate in the survey.
If for any reason you do not want your middle school student to participate in the survey, please contact your school’s principal by January 3, 2012.
Staff Survey
All HCPS employees will be asked to participate in the Staff School Climate and Culture Survey January 4 – 18. Employees will be asked questions (related to the school/department where they work) about internal communication, parent connections, and leadership dynamics. Employees will receive information from their administrators/supervisors on the process that will be used to collect staff input.
Parent Survey
The parent(s)/guardian(s) of each HCPS student is/are invited to participate in the Parent Engagement and Satisfaction Survey. A paper survey will be delivered to parents by student backpack. Survey questions ask parents about a broad range of topics, such as school quality and climate, communication, and parental engagement. Parents are also invited to offer any open-ended comments or feedback if they are interested. An online survey link for the free response site is found below. The online link will be available from Wednesday, January 4 – Friday, February 3.
Parents with two (or more) children in Henrico County Public Schools will receive a survey for each child. If both children attend the same school, you may complete both surveys if your school experience is unique based on each child’s grade level. Should your perspective be the same for both children, you only need to complete one. If both children attend different schools, parents may complete a survey for each school or you may base your responses on the one school with which you are most familiar.
If you would like to receive the survey in Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Chinese, Burmese or Nepali, please contact your child’s school or the ESL Welcome Center at 527-4604.
