Kids 4 Kindness

Each and every day, kids throughout Henrico schools are volunteering to make their communities a better place to live and their schools a better place to learn. Through Kids 4 Kindness, we are celebrating those special students who give so much to others.

Every morning, 5th grader Garrett Keogh takes off his backpack and then walks down the hall of Nuckol’s Farm Elementary to Ms. O’ Reilly’s room, where he visits students with special needs. He helps them do their work, helps with their exercises and just keeps them company.

When asked what his favorite part about helping kids is, he looks up and smiles to himself.

“Well it’s a lot of things,” Garrett said. “It’s just really fun, it’s really hard to describe but it makes me happy.”

According to Ms. O’Reilly, Garrett makes immediate, and lasting connections with the special needs children.

“It’s been a really nice bond, the children really trust him,” she said. “It’s very sincere the work he is doing. He’s not doing it for the attention, he is doing it because he wants to be here. He’s a great kid.”
