Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) operates a vast pupil transportation system. The Department of Pupil Transportation uses a fleet of more than 600 school buses.
Our department provides a service designed to enable the educational opportunities of all students. Our staff provides a climate of quality communication, cooperation and collaboration, emphasizing the importance of strong and interdependent working relationships. We have more than 600 employees and offer transportation to nearly 49,000 students daily to 46 elementary, 12 middle and nine high schools throughout the county. We also provide shuttle services to the Technical and Specialty Centers located at various high schools.
Our buses travel more than 50,000 miles a day and 9,000,000 miles a year. This is equivalent to 1771 round trips from Henrico, Virginia to Los Angeles, California.
Our county covers 244 square miles and is separated into five transportation zones – Zone 1 (East), Zone 2 (North), Zone 3 (Northwest), Zone 4 (West) and Zone 5(Northeast).
