Henrico County Public Schools is noted for its vast pupil transportation infrastructure. Transporting over 46,000 students each day, the Department of Pupil Transportation utilizes a fleet of 600 school buses. 

 

Our mission is to provide safe and reliable transportation for all eligible students to and from school and school-related activities each day.

 

The purpose of our department is to provide a support service designed to enhance the educational opportunities of all students. Our staff provides a climate of quality communication, cooperation and collaboration, emphasizing the importance of strong and interdependent working relationships.  We are “The Driving Force in Education.”

 

Listed below are some other interesting facts about the Henrico County Public Schools, Department of Pupil Transportation:

  • We transport over 46,000 students daily to 45 elementary, 12 middle and 9 high schools throughout the county. We also provide shuttle services to the Technical and Specialty Centers located at various high schools.
  • Our buses travel more than 50,000 miles a day and 9,000,000 miles a year. This is equivalent to 1771 round trips from Henrico, Virginia to Los Angeles, California.
  • Our county covers 244 square miles and is separated into five transportation zones – Zone 1 (East), Zone 2 (North), Zone 3 (Northwest), Zone 4 (West) and Zone 5(Northeast).
