The Department of Elementary Education seeks to build a strong academic foundation, designed to ensure successful growth and development of the total child. Our goal, through the Henrico County Public Schools' mission and vision, is to serve students in preschool through fifth grade and to provide diverse learning experiences that challenge their thinking and promote creative problem-solving.
With a special focus on providing a rigorous curriculum, promoting positive social skills, and developing 21st century skills, each elementary school is equipped to address the various learning styles and needs of students and to enable them to successfully transition to secondary schools and beyond.
Elementary education encompasses 46 elementary schools that receive support from gifted services, exceptional education services, federal programs, non-traditional programs, and English as a Second Language (ESL) staff.
The elementary curriculum includes classroom instruction in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Weekly art, music, physical education, and library services are also fundamental components of the total program.
The elementary education staff is eager to work with each of our families. It is our personal mission to ensure that all students are successful, contributing citizens in our competitive world.
