Secondary Education
The Department of Secondary Education focuses on building upon the outstanding foundation laid by our colleagues in Elementary Education. Our goal is to provide a rigorous academic preparation, reinforce productive social skills, and develop 21st century skills for each secondary student to enable them to successfully transition to college, technical education, or the 21st century workplace. Our middle and high schools work collaboratively to meet the needs of all students. Every school is supported by our outstanding Career and Technical Education (CTE) staff which provides a myriad of classes and services for our secondary students.
Secondary students in HCPS are fortunate to have many educational choices tailored to meet their interests and needs. In addition to our comprehensive middle and high schools, students can apply to one of 11 Specialty Centers at the high school level as well our nationally recognized Middle Years International Baccalaureate Program housed at three middle schools in the district. We have two Technical Centers that eleventh and twelfth-graders can apply to for industry certification in one of 30 different programs including nursing, carpentry, automotive technician, computer networking, and pharmacy technician. Finally, we have several programs designed for our non-traditional learners at the secondary level. Non-traditional programs are smaller educational settings that are individualized for students who have not been successful in a comprehensive setting.
In short, Secondary Education is equipped to meet the needs of our diverse community. We look forward to working with each of our students to insure that they are successful, productive citizens in the 21st century.
