What: Thirteen students and teachers from Yangju City, South Korea, will arrive on Saturday for a one week immersion experience in Henrico County Public Schools. Through a Sister City agreement, Henrico County and Yangju City have partnered to promote an understanding of cultures and a sharing of knowledge through international visits. Ten middle school aged students and three teachers will stay with host families and attend school at Short Pump, Elko or Brookland Middle School.
The group will spend the week engaged in American culture, food and education. Following a welcome ceremony on Saturday, activities include tours of Richmond and the capitol building, visits to schools and classes, and a Homecoming tailgate and football game at Hermitage High School.
Who: Visiting students and teachers from Yangju City, South Korea, and students, faculties and representatives of Henrico County and Henrico County Public Schools.
When: Activities will take place all week long. Several important events:
Saturday, Oct. 24: Tour of the community, including a opportunity to see one of the 13 original copies of the Declaration of Independence at the Virginia Historical Society and an official Welcome Ceremony at Short Pump Middle, 3:45 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 28: Richmond Capitol Building Tour, 9 a.m.
Thursday, Oct. 29: Farewell Dinner, Virginia Center Crossings, 6:30 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 30: Tailgate, homecoming parade and game, Hermitage HS, 4:30 p.m.
Where: Students will attend classes at Short Pump, Elko and Brookland Middle Schools. Other engagements will take place in various locations in Henrico County and the City of Richmond.
